I wrote this just now. I hope your day is turning into something. Anything. I'm glad you're here. C.A. MacConnell
Glove
Bring back a white horse.
Bring back a black kettle.
Rest assured, I'll be waiting
by the door when you knock,
saying, Good morning
or good night. Yesterday,
I dreamed of doves,
and I saw your face again.
You were pale, staring,
just staring -- no smile,
no wrinkle, no frown.
There. Always there.
And today, your presence
turns into a familiar glove;
how it slides on recklessly,
in a difficult fashion,
wriggling and fighting
the owner's hand itself,
finally ending in the perfect
fit. Bring back a purple hat.
Bring back a yellow stone.
Rest assured, I'll be waiting
by the door when you knock,
saying, Welcome home.
