Yellow Field

Good afternoon. Just getting my brain in gear. Here's some flash poetry for you. I'm sure I'll edit it, but it's kinda fun to just create and share right now. :) I come back to poetry to get in a zone...it puts me right in the moment. Love to you. C.A. MacConnell

Yellow Field

I bury myself
in the scorched, yellow field.
Beside me, my weapon --
a sharp, wooden sword
carefully carved
by my own hand.
Butterflies circle
my weak, bony wrist,
easily measured
by anyone's circle of touch.
You know, pointer to thumb.
Horses -- there are two --
and the gray, right side
of the farmer's house
is vertically splintered
like ancient train tracks
heading to heaven.
Only the shutters are solid.
Shade turns
all windows gray.
Resting there, 
I see you, Stand by Me.
I feel the horrible quiet.
I hear the sudden whistle,
and along with the boys,
I am running
for my life,
lost in a surprise
game of chicken.
I know the scene.
I know the speed.
We are one.

We are the same.
Jesus Christ,
I can smell the dead man.
Eternally, I am trapped
inside a thin, striped T-shirt,
racing River
in the openness, 
tripping on the ties, forever
eleven. Yes, I am in love
with spiders.

"Here," by C.A. MacConnell

Good morning. It's 4:33 a.m. to be exact. Last night, I fell asleep at like 7 p.m. Much needed. I suppose I've been going through many changes and emotions since releasing the book! Interesting. Also, I'm having some quick and steady realizations about old and new thinking, how I talk to myself, and that kind of thing. Rapid fire learning, for sure.

Releasing nonfiction is quite different from releasing fiction. Both put a writer in a vulnerable spot, but nonfiction can touch that spot even more, for sure. Feels like a tornado that's been rolling inside of me...but it's slowly settling down. Interesting as all hell to walk through it...

Whatever you're going through, be patient and be kind with yourself! <3 This morning, I'm feeling much more centered.

But all of my art comes from my mind and heart...and it's worth it. I'm always hoping to touch, entertain, help, and connect with folks. That's what it's all about.

Thank you to everyone supporting my books! I'm excited by the response, and I'm looking forward to seeing what rolls out next. One thing I'm planning is a book signing, but it may take some time, as I'm going to do this one a little differently. I'm excited about it though. It may have something to do with music and clowns, I'm hoping. :)

Hope you have an amazing day. Sami, my car, and I are out to do deliveries and then, they get a tune-up, ha. Perhaps I need a tune-up as well. My mom says I need a tune-up in the wardrobe area, ha, which is probably true, but I do hate shopping, ha, so I will probably continue to wear my sweats and t-shirts from the 90s.

I recently read "Radical Forgiveness," by Colin Tipping; it was fantastic. I highly recommend it. The process of reading and following the suggestions was difficult to feel, but I'm seeing some newness and some light creeping in, for sure. I enjoy trying new things. Certainly, I suggest that book to anyone! It's eye-opening. Now I'm re-reading "The Secret." That's good as well. I'm always chiseling away at something new. Why not.

I'm also writing a ton of songs, which is fun. The more I go along, the better they get. Long story, but b/c of stress and such, my muscles/nerves/chronic pain has been intense and so, because of the muscle issue, the singing is now at about 75-85% I'd say. Getting there. Some days, I'm at 100, and that's fun as hell. Literally "getting my voice back." It's been a long, slow recovery process, and it's still going on, but I'm hopeful this evening. Soon, I'll be a powerhouse. :) Yeah. You got it.

It's amazing what stress and repressed emotion can do to the body. I've been walking right through it all, and part of the process included writing that fifth book, and I'd say I look rather rough right now, ha, but I'm OK with it. It's been a very tough couple of years, and I'm super proud of my continued perseverance.

Thank you to all of you supporting RECOVER WILDLY:  DAILY SPIRITUAL ESSAYS FOR SURVIVORS, my fifth book. I intend to have a signing, and to be trite, I have some other things "up my sleeves." Rad.

So, here's some flash poetry for ya...I'm getting back in fiction gear for book six. Poetry brings me back to the moment :)

Rattle

High-pitched, cicadas click
and whine, tymbal-singing
of thirteen underground years.
They seem not afraid that death
will come soon. Three to five
weeks, to be exact. How brief
they rattle this world with life. 
Simply, like butterflies, they rejoice
in the flight. Perhaps, of their story's
brevity, they are not aware. Perhaps,
neither are we.
