THE HOLE is a psychological thriller set in the fictional, corrupt city of Jaytown. When mastermind Lucas Stillwell manipulates two class mates, Joanna Carver and Zion Makeda, to murder their math teacher, there is no turning back from the chaos that develops. Delving into cults, tragic pasts, societal oppression, and more, THE HOLE is an intense, addictive story that moves with a driving force. With harrowing twists and turns, deep and full of witty character voices, this novel makes one question the fine line between guilt and innocence. The three main characters -- obsessive friends and anti-heroes -- will not be forgotten. It is a pulsing, smart, slick story that rises and falls with gutsy moves.
Personal note to the reader: I am definitely thrilled to share my latest creation with you. It is absolutely my best work to date. For this one, I let go entirely...no holding back. I didn't think about who might read it or what might sell. I just dug in. I really honed in on voice with this one, and the characters are deep, rich, and real, as well as chilling. I also dove more into societal influences than I usually do, and the entire experience felt strong and brave. In this fictional town, nothing's ever certain. Truly, THE HOLE has risen out of many years of hard work and painstaking research. To develop the characters and story, I read a multitude of books (some would seem unexpected), listened to hundreds of podcasts, studied many films, talked with several formerly incarcerated individuals (one friend was exonerated after time on death row), studied Twitter accounts (some would seem surprising), interviewed numerous folks, paid close attention to those around me and took notes, wrote and wrote, edited and edited, formatted and formatted again. It has been a long time coming. So I am ecstatic to finally have it out there. Last night, I got choked up.You better believe it.
Tell your friends...I am the sole creator, writer, and editor of THE HOLE and all of my books. I also handled all interior design for the paperback and Ebook, as well as the cover art. In addition, all promotion is my baby as well. So, word of mouth is my friend, as this is an entirely independent effort.

Quiet.
And the sheets
are red.
Alone,
in the crimson
morning,
I write,
Take me
to the Arizona
night sky.
I'm guessing
that every mosquito,
and every tree limb,
and every single
thunder crack back
has lived with
such a feeling.
If I could, I'd ask the ant,
or maybe the cheetah.
Here and now,
out there,
someone
is blindsided
by a naked,
Iceland afternoon,
taken
from smooth skin
to wrinkles.
Quiet.
Yes, the sheets
are red. Alone,
in the crimson
morning.

Hey there. Proof one should arrive shortly. Book four will be out so soon. A little more to do, then presto. Looking forward to it. And excited about having a signing as well. I have a really rad venue in mind. Gonna check it out tonight.
Be safe out there.
I was severely ill for a month, even while working on this book. Unrelated to Covid. I had a severe reaction to a treatment, and it literally affected me head to toe, and I can't tell you how many hospitals and docs I've been to in the last 30 days. This is how stubborn I am...at one point, I was hooked up to an IV while working on this book, and I still never missed my 4-5 mile walks. No lie.
Maybe I should take up an extreme sport, ha.
Just glad to be feeling better. Still recovering somewhat, but it seems I'm on the mend. And also appreciative of doctors/specialists smarter than me.
I've been trying hard to focus on the positives. One thing I've learned from all of this is that sometimes pushing through adversity is messy, but it'll make a person feel strong as hell.
And then there's a more delicate side of me that still believes in true love.
So I'll remember the journey of writing this sucker as a tough one, tougher than all three before it, but at the same time, I'll know I persevered.
Love to you,
C.A. MacConnell
A poem for you today. A little exercise in simplicity, and the power of word placement. The first line is the title as well in this one. Hope you're well! <3, C.A.
Back in the bedroom, she
Turns gray in the yellow
Light. Today,
Under cover, she is deeply
Buried.
Smoking, dying, getting
Off
The best
She can. Words come easy --
So
Real,
That was,
And wide open --
Here lies her starving heart.
Such a clean
Party --
Flat on the back,
And the nasty
Clock is stuck on the stupid beat of
One.
Post-
traumatic. Good enough.
Shaky hands,
Headache, please, fuck you.
Right now, someone tells her that all she needs
is air.
Right now, someone tells her that all she needs
is everything.
There is a place we call
Up there,
and a place we call
Down below, and somewhere in
Between,
Lives a human,
A canine,
Vicious desire,
And a small, empty
House
For sale.
Hold her hand when you take her
To the showing.
Make sure the lights are
On.
Make sure it is brick
Or stone.
